Sessions I’m Squeezing In Before September Locks
Late August is an emotionally-charged time with K-12 children heading back to school as well as parents moving their college-aged kids into dorms and apartments. Make sure to give yourself some grace and take a breath.
One thing that helps with taking that breath, that pause, is knowing that I’m here for you and your high school senior. Summer has flown by, and that’s OK. Fall is around the corner and is absolutely my favorite time of year, especially for senior photos.
So I’ve created this checklist for you and your student:
- Does your student want this high school photo experience NOW?
- Do you have a booking date in mind?
- Do they have comfortable yet stylish clothes they already own?
- Do they want the ever-popular outside photos combined with a special indoor location?
- Where will the photos live beyond their/your cell phone?
Does Your Student Want This High School Photo Experience NOW?
Fall is beautiful for outdoor photography, but sometimes the emotional roller coaster of senior year can feel overwhelming to students. They are applying to colleges and trying to figure out next year before senior year has even begun. There’s peer pressure to share senior photos, and if they don’t have them, that could be extra pressure. However, you and your student are the best judge if they want to do the traditional outside fall photos. Maybe they have a special indoor location that’s special to them, like their potter’s wheel, or inside a barn with their horse? Maybe they enjoy the snow and want a special snowfall session in December or January? These are all doable possibilities with Ginger Liemohn Creative. Even waiting until spring of senior year might be the best fit if they’ve had an injury over the summer, or they just aren’t emotionally ready yet. Come in for a yearbook photo, and then we finish up in spring if that fits your senior’s timeline. I am here for you no matter what time of year you choose.
Do You Have a Booking Date in Mind?
You can see my availability on my website by clicking on a preferred package here (Bronze Package) and see my schedule. It’s easy to see how our mutual availability aligns! There can be a lot to juggle with sports, extracurriculars, and part-time job schedules. Please know that photo sessions can be booked after school on weekdays as well as mornings, afternoons, or evenings on weekends throughout the fall. There is no additional fee for weekends, so grab those while they are still available here on my Packages page. Please note that depending on your high school, the yearbook photo is due to the yearbook editor sometime between Nov. 1- and Feb. 1. Do They Have Comfortable Yet Stylish Clothes They Already Own?
A combination of comfortable and fashionable (for their individual style) is the sweet spot for high school senior photos. Make sure the potential wardrobe physically fits and mentally fits their current life stage. If as a parent you want a formal portrait (indoors or outdoors) for the yearbook, then one slightly elevated or dressier outfit makes sense.
Take time with them to see what they can use from their existing closet, and then build out from there. Especially senior boys tend to hit growth spurts between junior and senior year, so keep in mind they shouldn’t just wear their older sibling’s clothes because they might not fit. It might make sense to purchase a blazer that fits them so they can wear it for Homecoming or upcoming college scholarship interviews. Do They Want the Ever-popular Outside Photos Combined with a Special Indoor Location?
Most clients prefer outdoors, so I book a rain date in case of inclement weather. For those who prefer an indoor vibe, it can be in my studio and/or on-location such as: cafes, bookstores, barns, creative spaces like theaters, pottery studios, local college campuses, and more! Another possibility is combining a high school senior session with a family session at the end and meeting up at a favorite park with the rest of the family, even a pet!
Where Will the Photos Live Beyond Their/Your Cell Phone?
Photos live because they tell a story. No matter if it is a headshot, action shot, or a still captured in your favorite environment, your senior pictures will forever explain the narrative of what happened.
