Senior Year Is Sneaking Up On Us
If your rising senior is still deep in summer mode, we’re on the same page. There’s real time left, and I want you to enjoy it. But senior year is already showing up in the corner of your calendar: sports tryouts…back-to-school shopping…last vacations…college info nights…senior portraits…they all somehow slide down the list, and then September arrives!
Here’s the good news. You still have time to capture the beautiful summer sun before autumn paints Southeast Michigan. Let’s use it well. What follows is what the next few weeks actually look like, and why late August is quietly the smartest moment to book.
1.) The Real Senior Portrait Timeline
Booking a senior session isn’t the big lift you might be imagining. Here’s what actually happens week to week:
- Week 1: You reach out, we lock a date, and I send over the senior questionnaire to start planning your student’s session.
- Week 2: We choose the vibe together (indoor, outdoor, or both), talk through your senior’s style, and I build the plan using a Pinterest or Canva board.
- Week 3: We shoot! About an hour start to finish, plus a few minutes at the end to celebrate.
Three business days after your session, you have a proofing gallery in your inbox. You and your senior can pick your favorites independently and meet with me on Zoom to talk about preferred edits. No high-pressure selling; you choose in the comfort of your home. Getting wonderful photographs of your senior as they journey through the last year of a milestone is easy when you book with me.
2.) What to Wear (No Shopping Required)
The best senior portrait wardrobes come out of the closet, not the mall. When we talk before the session, I’ll ask you and your teen to gather two or three outfits that already fit and already feel like them: one that shows personality, one that reads a little more traditional, and one that just makes them feel good.

3.) Why Late Summer Light Wins the Season
Most families think of senior portraits as a fall thing: golden trees, cozy sweaters, the whole postcard. But late August light is quietly the softest, warmest, most flattering window of the entire year. The sun sits at a lower angle by the second week of August, evening light stretches long, and everything reads a little dreamier without the fall chaos yet.
There’s also this: your senior is more relaxed in August than they will be at any other point in the school year. No homework, no early practices, no test prep (your student will be excited to read this part). That relaxation shows up in the frame…every time.
4.) A Different Way of Storytelling
You know the saying “a picture is worth a thousand words”? That’s because photographs aren’t just spectacles to admire through glancing; they’re a medium for us to understand the what, how, when, where, and all other narrative details…all through a photo. Booking with me during your student’s last year of high school is perfect because I will photograph their story and what their senior journey looked like.
Neither you nor your student will ever forget the final moments of their secondary school journey.
