Class of 2027, This One’s for You

If your student just finished junior year, they’re about to step into the busiest, most emotional, and most fleeting year of high school. It’s a countdown you feel in your soul by December. Here’s what I know from photographing hundreds of seniors: they walk in nervous and leave surprised at what the camera can hold. I want to share what I’ve learned so you can plan the year with less pressure and more joy.
Legacy Isn’t a Big Word. It’s a Portrait on a Wall in Twenty Years.
A senior portrait isn’t a school photo with a nicer background. It’s a legacy portrait. Ten years from now, it’ll be pulled out of a drawer for a nervous kid facing the same fear. Twenty years from now, it’s framed on a wall at a graduation party. Forty years from now…it’s the picture they show to their own kid. Soon, one frame will bloom into a collage to visually tell the story of a growing family tree.
That’s the version of your student’s senior I’m here to see. Not the polished LinkedIn version. Not the sleepy school photo. The one who has finally figured out what they like to wear, how they laugh, and what they want the world to see. I see beauty in every senior who steps in front of my lens, and I always provide support when my guidance is needed on how to exude the confidence within perfectly.
What to Plan for Now
Summer isn’t just for booking; it’s for planning the session that actually feels like your teen’s vibe. Start with three simple pieces:
- Wardrobe. Two to three outfits: one that shows personality, one more traditional, one that just makes them feel good. (What they already love wearing usually wins. Don’t buy anything new until we talk! All you have to do is book a constiluation on my Contact page.)
- Location. Studio for polished and timeless. Outdoors for sunlight, fields, and small town streets. Most Class of 2027 clients pick both.
- Style clues. Sports jersey, instrument, favorite sneakers, a well-loved book! These make the portrait feel like your teen, not every other senior on the internet.
Every senior gets a custom mood board built around what they told me matters. We plan the music, the light, the moments together! You never walk in wondering what to do because I am here for you.
Why Summer Booking Wins the Light
Fall light is the best light of the year for senior portraits. Warm, golden, generous. But the calendar tightens in September because every senior family remembers this at the same time. Book in July and walk into the sweet spot with everything already planned. If you wait until October, you may scramble for last-minute weekend slots, hoping for good weather. Book now, choose your golden hour!
Why This Isn’t a School Photo (or a Selfie)

School photos are best for volume. Selfies are best for the algorithm. A real senior portrait is best for your teen’s journey. The studio is set up before they arrive: their favorite music already playing, a mood board built for them, a private changing area, and a session paced around their comfort. If nerves show up, we work through them together. I’ve watched seniors say “I don’t photograph well” at the door and “I didn’t know I could look like that” at the gallery. I wrote about the confidence poses I teach in another post, and each pose can used throughout your senior session (and beyond)!
I am Here to Capture Your Teen’s Legacy
If you have a Class of 2027 rising senior, this is the time to book. Reach out here and let’s talk about the vibe, the timing, and capture your student’s next milestone.
